Threat Actors Continue To Take Advantage Of LockBit Ransomware Builders

Threat actors are exploiting LockBit ransomware builders to create custom malware for cyberattacks and extortion. Some of these actors identify themselves while others remain anonymous. Ransom demands range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. Emerging variants such as Brain Cipher Ransomware and Nullbudge Lock provide links to Tor-accessible web interfaces for negotiations. Brain Cipher Ransomware though basic suggests a backend system for managing negotiations and payments and has already targeted high-profile victims with six-figure ransom demands. Other variants include DragonForce discovered at the end of 2023 which supports communication through Tox or a web interface and SenSayQ which uses email and its own web interface.
