A web application firewall (WAF) is a security solution used to protect web applications against various types of attacks, such as SQL injections, cross-site scripting (XSS), and other exploits that can compromise the application.

A WAF can be implemented as a hardware or software solution and acts as an intermediate layer between the web server and the Internet connection, filtering all incoming traffic to the application and monitoring it for potential attacks.

Using rules and patterns, a WAF can detect and block suspicious activity before it can reach the application, increasing the security of the application and deterring potential attackers.
